This meeting was the board discussion of what to do with the rest of the bond money. Maybe teachers have been told what the outcome was -- not sure as I haven't talked to any school friends for months except for the board meetings I've attended.
Basically, there isn't enough money to do what was originally planned because of a few things-- besides the overall economy and
growth--unexpected purchase of land at Mattie-which resulted in an
earlier than expected build out of Mult-Pur Room, high school tech
grant that expedited HS tech building, drop in enrollment (because of
class size decision in 2011-12) which resulted in loss of "unhoused
student" formula and then months of inability to apply for matching
state funding (which the district was counting on to build a new
school) and now the state has run out of funds and is creating a new
set of "application rules" in anticipation of a future state school
bond in 2014 or later. So the board had to set new priorities and
basically have given the go ahead to continue to look for a land purchase ($3M set aside) for a new school but are no longer looking at using what's left of the $50M bond to build a new school and instead focus on plans for a second story structure at Brooks and discuss what more permanent facilities might look like for Windsor Oaks Academy at the HS.
Unfortunately this seems to leave the Windsor Creek facility on hold
which really wasn't discussed. Marc Elin, Annabel, Susan Nystrom,
Shannon Johnson (teacher from the Independent Study program) and a couple of community members were there.
